A pond is easy to build and difficult to build well. Depth, shelving, liner protection, filtration and where the pipework runs all get decided in the first week and all of them are expensive to revisit later. We design around what you want out of it, whether that is koi you can feed by hand, a wildlife pool that fills with frogs, or a natural pond or lake that has to hold its own with very little attention.

Wildlife ponds and koi ponds want opposite things
A wildlife pond wants shallows, marginal planting, no fish worth speaking of and to be left alone. A koi pond wants depth, volume, flow and serious filtration. Building one and stocking it like the other is the most common mistake we are called out to fix, so the first conversation is always about which one you actually want.
Larger water: natural ponds and lakes
Bigger bodies of water are a different discipline again. Aeration, margins, silt management and planting do the work that mechanical filtration does in a garden pond, and the aim is a system that stays healthy with a few visits a year rather than a few a month. Whatever the body of water, the target is the same, a happy and healthy environment.
